The Reverend Andy Miller was recently ordained by Archbishop Russ McClanahan. He is a well known therapist in the Tallahassee, FL area and has developed a unique ecumenical healing ministry. As most of you know, almost three years ago, a vision of nearly fifteen years was fulfilled with the creation of Tallahassee Healing Prayer Ministries (THPM). I'm writing to inform you of two very recent developments in relation to this ministry.
The first is the acquisition of our first facility that can be used for THPM training classes, supervision, continuing education, healing nights, healing appointments, and seminars. Up to this point we have have been completely dependant on our "healing-hub" churches. While we will continue to maintain these hubs, it will be very nice to not be confined and restricted to their scheduling and space availability. I'm also forwarding a letter that explains God's hand in a series of events that led to the acquisition of this facility as well as other related issues.
The second development is an upcoming training for facilitators for "Restarting," the first module in the Life Model / Thrive series. The author, Ed Khouri, has worked extensively with both Dr. Jim Wilder and Dr. Karl Lehman to produce this outstanding series. Ed will be with us August 14th (7-9:00pm), August 15th (8:30am-9:00pm), and August 16th (8:30am-5:00pm), presenting the "Restarting" program with special emphasis on training group facilitators. The cost is $30 plus $25 for the Restarting workbook. We will be providing 17-19 hours of CEUs for a nominal charge, in conjunction with the Center for Biblical Studies. We're still working out some of the details as this conference was originally closed and strictly for the purposes of training THPM Restarting Facilitators. However, with the acquisition of the new facility (@ 2760 Capital Circle NE, Tallahassee, FL 32308) we have been able to open the registration for as many as are able to come.
I personally attended a related training at the Net Institute Conference (Orlando, April, 2008) where Ed was introducing the program for one of the first times. It is extremely well done and presents brain development theory in a very understandable way. The really exciting content are 36 exercises that can be learned and practiced in healing groups, to regrow neuropathways which facilitate healthy attachment to others and God (as God has infinite capacity for attachment) versus counterfeit attachments to BEEPS; behaviors, events, experiences, people or substances). THPM has several groups going and the preliminary results are impressive. This model would be beneficial to the general population (i.e., I can't believe the healing at a deeper level that I'm getting in my own mens' group) but is especially impressive in results with those struggling with various forms of addiction. Our Board is now considering "Restarting" and the subsequent Thrive programs as the "missing link" for our healing ministry. Of course, these exercises are easily adapted for the therapist's office.
